EARLS 2010

News

EARLS 2010 is the name of the first pan-European RLS study conducted by EARLS.

Summary: In order to assess impact, severity and treatment of Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) and other diseases as experienced by the members of RLS patient groups within nine European countries, a detailed questionnaire was sent to 6,359 members of these groups. 1,945 questionnaires (30.6%) were returned, of which 1,908 (30.0%) could be analyzed.
Participating countries are Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Sweden and The Netherlands
Age of participants varied between 13 and 100 years.
The study clearly shows that RLS is a disease that needs to be taken very seriously and that diagnosis and therapy in the participating countries, although improved during the last decade, leave much room for further necessary improvement. More research into RLS, RLS education of doctors and information to improve knowledge about RLS is badly needed. In addition there is a huge saving potential in health care expenditure.

Participating countries are:
AustriaBritainNetherlands

For each country there is a full report which can be downloaded as a PDF-file. Please see below-
